Use this checklist to help determine if it's time to replace your water heater:

  • Repair Cost: If the estimated repair cost for your water heater is over $500, replacement usually makes sense.
  • Warranty: Consult the Terms and Conditions of your warranty. In many cases, parts are covered only by a limited warranty. Often, warranties do not cover repair labor.
  • Equipment Age: Equipment ages at different rates depending on how well you maintain it and the operating demands placed on it. In general, if your water heater is over 10-years old, reliability can be a concern, as can failure (including leaks).
  • Moving or Staying: If you plan to move, repair is likely a good option. However, if you plan on staying in your home, an energy efficient water heater with the capacity to provide plenty of hot water for your family is a usually a wise investment.
  • How Well Is Your Existing Water Heater Working: Do you run out of hot water? You may need a unit with more capacity.

Shumate offers a wide variety of water heaters, including the tankless water heater technology like the Endless Hot Water system from Rinnai.

Tip: Make sure to schedule your preventative maintenance. With a Shumate home maintenance plan, you'll lower your monthly utility bills by having a more efficient HVAC system. More importantly, a maintained system dramatically lengthens the life of your equipment, saving you thousands of dollars by not having to prematurely replace your system.
